When you have some leftover bread and don’t know what to do with it, then try out these delectable chaat recipes that use leftover bread. The great thing about the bread chaat recipe is that both of these recipes are made mostly with leftovers.

Here, I am sharing bread chaat in two ways which are Bread Dahi Chaat, and Bread Chana Chaat

Bread Dahi Chaat is an alternative and incredible method of making famous Indian street food Dahi Papdi Chaat. Here you replace papdi with toasted and bread pieces.

Whereas Bread Chana Chaat or Bread Chole Chaat is a great substitute for Tikki chole Chaat. In the Bread Chana or Channa Chaat recipe, you swap Aloo Tikki with some toasted or shallow fried bread pieces. Then the crispy bread pieces are covered with a generous amount of piping hot chana masala (spicy chickpea curry), tamarind chutney, potatoes, coriander chutney, onions, coriander leaves, and some sev.

Both of the above bread chaat recipes are a perfect solution for those times when you are craving some spicy (chatpati) and finger-licking chaat.

On this page, you’ll get 2 Bread Chaat Recipes with all the tips and variations. Both of the bread chaat recipes taste great.

What is Chaat?

Chaat or chat is a savory snack of North Indian street food. Chaats are generally served at roadside eateries. Most chaats have a blend of spicy, tangy, and mildly sweet flavors. Chutneys and spice powders give the chaat a luscious taste, and the topping adds an outstanding crunch and taste.

Chaat comes from a Hindi word which means “chaatna”. It’s a literal translation of licking fingers while eating. All the chaats are finger-licking good. This is probably the reason why it is called chaat.

Every time I hear the word chaat, all I want is to dig into a delectable platter of chaat. YUM!

Chaat is popular throughout the Indian subcontinent. Every Indian city has a place where you can get all types of chaat.

Some chats are really spicy, while others are tangy and on the sweeter side. The great thing about chaats is that they can easily be customized according to your taste preferences.

Some popular indian chaats are:

Chole aloo tikki chaat,

Aloo tikki chaat

Palak patta chaat

Pani puri

Dahi vada,

Dahi papdi chaat, etc.

What are pro tips, tricks, and variations to make your best Bread Chaat?

Tip 1. I have toasted bread in a pan, but you can also toast them in a toaster or shallow fry them.

Tip 2. If you want crispy bread cubes, then make sure to toast bread sliced at medium-low heat, and let them cool completely before using in chaats.

Tip 3. Toasting bread pieces ahead of time is also an excellent option. That way you can make chaat anytime you want, and also you will get crispy bread pieces.

Tip 4. Always serve bread chaats right after you add the toppings. Or else the bread would absorb all the liquids and the chaat would turn soggy.

Tip 5. For making bread dahi chaat, you can also use boiled or canned chickpeas.

Tip 6. If you don’t have sev, then you can also use fried, roasted, or chili peanuts.

Tip 7. I have used nylon sev, feel free to use any sev or bhujiya of your choice.

Tip 8. If you don’t have tamarind chutney, then you can also use tomato ketchup.

Tip 9. When making chaat, make sure to keep all the ingredients handy. This way, making chaat will be easier and you won’t miss out on any important ingredients.

Tip 10. For seasoning, I have used chaat masala powder that adds a nice piquancy to chaat. If you don’t have chaat masala powder then skip it.

Tip 11. Black salt tastes best in chaats, but if you don’t have black salt then you can use any rock salt you have handy.

Tip 12. Red chili powder can be replaced with black pepper powder or cayenne pepper.

Tip 13. Roasted cumin powder adds a nice flavor to chaat recipes. If you don’t have roasted cumin powder then you easily make it at home. It takes only 5-10 minutes.

Tip 14. Roasted nuts such as almonds and cashews can also be added as a topping for a nutty crunch.

Tip 15. You can also garnish chaat with some pomegranate arils.

Tip 16. In the Bread Chana Chaat recipe, I used plain yogurt. This is because it balances the spiciness of the dish and adds a refreshing and cooling effect. However, you can also serve it without yogurt.

Tip 17. Feel free to adjust the amount of both the chutneys according to your taste.

Tip 18. I have used oil for toasting bread pieces, but you can also use butter or ghee.
