These coconut ladoo truffles are super delicious with a soft, chewy coconut shell and creamy white chocolate, pistachio and rose filling, with an aromatic hint of cardamom. Coated in desiccated coconut or finely ground pistachios, they look just as gorgeous as they are delightful to taste.
The contrast between the sweet coconut outside and the chocolatey, rich, nutty filling inside makes the flavours of these ladoo truffles to die for.
Imagine the delectable flavours in a soft, creamy ladoo, and these coconut ladoo truffles bring a lovely festive twist to traditional Indian mithai.
Table of contents
A few dried rose petals add a delicate floral note, which makes these stuffed coconut ladoos feel extra special and extra luxurious. They bring the familiar flavours of Indian coconut mithai together with the indulgence of a condensed milk coconut truffle.
They look gorgeous on a festive mithai platter along with other laddos like rasmalai ladoo, rose badam ladoo, pineapple ladoo, atta ladoo, besan ladoo, and rava ladoo. They make a lovely homemade treat to share with family and friends.
If you enjoy coconut ladoo recipes but want to make something a little different but still with similar flavours, these coconut ladoo truffles are a wonderful choice to make for Diwali, Holi, or any other festive gathering. They are also great for gifting, or whenever you fancy a homemade sweet with a surprise in the centre.
About Coconut Ladoo Truffles
These coconut ladoo truffles have an indulgent surprise inside! The creamy white chocolate pistachio rose centre makes these coconut ladoos unique compared with the usual version.
When you combine coconut truffles with Indian coconut ladoo flavors, you get these beautiful gem-like coconut ladoo truffles that have a soft outer coconut shell, a creamy white chocolate, rose and pistachio filling, and two beautiful coatings to finish them off.
Traditional coconut ladoo is devoured for its sweet coconutty flavours and soft, slightly chewy texture. This truffle version takes that familiar Indian sweet in a more indulgent direction by cooking it with condensed milk and adding a white chocolate pistachio rose filling to the centre.
They’re ideal for Diwali, Holi, festive gifting, or adding something special to your festive sweet platter.
Making these truffles is really easy and straightforward. The coconut mixture in this recipe is made using sweetened condensed milk, desiccated coconut, ghee, and ground cardamom. The base of this ladoo comes together in a pan without needing any sugar syrup. The easily available ingredients and ease of making these truffles make them a convenient way to prepare coconut ladoo at home.
The delicious white chocolate filling is what makes these ladoo truffles really irresistible. Melted white chocolate and cream make a smooth base, while the freshly ground pistachios and dried rose petals add exquisite nuttiness, texture, and a subtle floral aroma.
Once the filling has chilled enough to handle, it is wrapped in the coconut mixture and shaped into balls. I like to coat them like traditional laddoos and chose two coatings. I coated them with desiccated coconut for a classic look and pistachio powder for a beautiful green coating. But you can also coat them in a white chocolate pistachio rose coating.
All in all, these coconut ladoos are stuffed coconut ladoos that look like a traditional Indian sweet but have the creamy centre and appearance of a truffle. I made large ladoos, but you can make them larger for a generous filling or shape them smaller for a festive sweet platter.
Try these coconut ladoo truffles if you love coconut sweets. These coconut ladoo truffles are here to give a familiar Indian sweet a special twist for Diwali, gifting, or any occasion that calls for homemade mithai.

Ingredients
You will need only a few ingredients to make these coconut ladoo truffles with white chocolate pistachio filling.
For the coconut ladoo shell
- Sweetened condensed milk: It is the main sweetener in this recipe, used to sweeten the coconut mixture. It also helps bind it together and gives these ladoos their soft, chewy texture.
- Desiccated coconut: It is the main ingredient to make the outer coconut shell. Start with 1½ cups and keep a little extra on hand in case the mixture needs more of it to hold its shape.
- Ghee: A little bit of ghee is added to give this ladoo an Indian dessert flavour and richness. A small amount adds richness. However, you can skip it if you don’t like to add ghee. Add a little butter, or omit adding anything.
- Ground cardamom: A little bit of cardamom gives these truffles a sweet-scented dessert flavour. It adds the warm, fragrant flavour that works so well in Indian coconut sweets.
For the white chocolate pistachio filling
- White chocolate: It adds the creamy base of the filling and balances the flavour of the nutty pistachios.
- Cream: It helps melt the chocolate into a smooth mixture. I use 10% fat cream for this recipe, but you can also use whipping cream here. That works just fine.
- Roasted pistachios: Ground pistachios add a nutty flavour to the filling and the coating. Use shelled pistachios.
- Sliced pistachios: It is an optional ingredient, but it adds a lovely color and a little texture to the centre.
- Dried rose petals: This is an optional ingredient, added to bring a delicate floral note to the filling. Make sure to use edible dried rose petals intended for food. For more rose flavours, you can also add a few drops of rose extract.
For coating and garnishing
- Desiccated coconut: I used desiccated coconut for a classic white coconut coating. Pistachio powder: To give these truffles a lovely green coating and nutty pistachio flavour.
- Dried rose petals and sliced pistachios: The optional garnishes, sliced pistachios and dried rose petals, make the finished sweet ladoos taste even more festive.
- Edible silver or gold leaf: It is an entirely optional ingredient to be used only as a festive garnish. If you want a more decorative finish for a celebration or gift box, silver leaves are highly recommended.
How to Make Coconut Ladoo Truffles
Making these coconut truffles is so simple and easy.
Make the Chocolate Filling
- Start by preparing the white chocolate filling by adding cream and chopped white chocolate to a heatproof bowl and microwaving for 30 seconds.
- Stir well until the chocolate is fully melted. If you still have chocolate pieces, microwave it for another 20 seconds and stir well until completely smooth. Alternatively, heat the cream until hot and pour it over the chopped white chocolate. Leave it for about a minute before stirring until smooth and creamy.
- Let the mixture cool slightly, then refrigerate it to thicken until the filling is firm enough to pipe.
- To make pistachio powder, pulse the roasted shelled pistachios in a food processor or grinder until finely ground. Make sure not to overprocess. Stop as soon as you have a powder; otherwise, over-blending for too long can release the oils, turning the nuts into a pistachio paste.
- Measure out 2 tablespoons of pistachio powder and add it to the chilled white chocolate. Mix until well combined. Also, add some crushed dried rose petals and mix again. Pipe it into a piping bag and set it aside.
Cook the Coconut Mixture
- Now, add the sweetened condensed milk to a nonstick pan and cook over medium-low heat for about a minute, while stirring continuously. Then add 1½ cups of desiccated coconut and continue stirring and cooking until the mixture thickens and starts coming together.
- Then stir in the ghee and ground cardamom. Keep mixing and cooking until the mixture comes together like a soft dough. If it feels too sticky to shape, feel free to add a little more desiccated coconut; just add a little amount at a time.
- Remove the mixture from the pan and allow the mixture to cool until it is comfortable enough to touch but still soft and pliable.
Make the Ladoo Truffles
- Once cool enough to handle, knead the mixture slightly, take a portion of the cooled coconut mixture, and flatten it gently in your palm.
- Then pipe some of the chilled white chocolate pistachio filling into the centre. Also, place two or three pistachio slices over the filling, if desired.
- Carefully bring together the coconut mixture around the filling and seal it completely. Now, gently roll it between your palms to form a smooth ball. Make sure there are no gaps in the coconut shell, so the filling is fully enclosed.
- Repeat this with the remaining coconut mixture and filling, and shape all the truffles. Make them larger or smaller, depending on how you want to serve them.
Coat the Coconut Truffles
- To coat, spread the desiccated coconut on a plate and place the reserved pistachio powder on another. Roll some of the truffles in desiccated coconut and the rest in pistachio powder, coating each one evenly. Alternatively, you can also dip the truffles in melted white chocolate if you are more into a chocolate-coated finish.
6. Garnish and chill
- To garnish, top each truffle with sliced pistachio, dried rose petals, or edible silver or gold leaf, if using. Refrigerate the truffles until firm. For the best taste and texture, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving, so the coconut shell and creamy centre are not overly firm.
Variations
Try different coatings
I chose two coatings for these laddos to give them their attractive festive finish, and to keep them close to traditional coconut ladoo. But there are plenty of options to coat them. You can go with plain white chocolate coating, rose white chocolate coating, pistachio rose white chocolate coating, coconut pistachio rose coating, coconut rose coating, and coconut white chocolate coating. Or just coat all the truffles in one variety of coating, if you prefer a uniform look.
Adjust the filling
The white chocolate pistachio filling is the signature of this recipe, but you can adjust the amount of cream, powdered and sliced pistachios or dried rose petals to suit your taste. Keep the filling thick enough to wrap neatly inside the coconut mixture.
Make smaller coconut truffles
I have made large truffles, as my daughter insisted on making large ones this time. However, for small servings for a festive platter, shape the coconut ladoos into smaller balls. Smaller truffles are easier to serve alongside other Indian sweets like avocado burfi brulee, walnut burfi and layered coconut burfi, although when making smaller ones, you will need to divide the filling proportionately.
Add a white chocolate coating
For a more indulgent finish, dip the shaped and chilled truffles in melted white chocolate. Allow the coating to set before serving. This gives them a different look and makes the white chocolate flavour more prominent.
Serving Suggestions
These coconut ladoo truffles taste great when enjoyed as a dessert any time of the day, and they are a delightful addition to a Diwali sweets platter, especially when paired alongside traditional Indian mithais like bread malai roll and chocolate coated badam roll.
Serve them with any of your favourite homemade sweets, or arrange the coconut-coated and pistachio-coated versions together for a colourful presentation.
They also make thoughtful homemade gifts for festive occasions, family gatherings, and celebrations. For gifting, place them in small paper cases inside a gift box; just keep them chilled until you are ready to serve or give them away.
The filling contains cream, so keep the truffles refrigerated all the time. Do not leave them out for extended periods.
Storage Suggestions
Store these coconut ladoo truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
Since the chocolate filling has cream, this mithai should remain refrigerated when not being served. Before serving, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly. This brings out the creamy texture of the filling.
For gifting, keep them chilled during storage and transport if they are out for a few hours, and let the recipient know that they need refrigeration for these truffles.
Tips & Tricks to Make the Best Coconut Ladoo Truffles
- Chilling: The white chocolate pistachio filling needs to be firm enough to pipe before shaping. If the filling is too soft and not pipeable, refrigerate it for longer before shaping the truffles.
- Coconut: Start with the specified 1½ cups of desiccated coconut at the beginning. If the mixture is too sticky to handle, you can add a little more coconut. Don’t add too much coconut as it can make the mixture too dry and difficult to seal.
- Coconut Mixture: Let the coconut mixture cool until it is pliable and you can handle it comfortably. Just do not let it become too firm, or it would be hard to shape. A slightly warm and pliable mixture is easier to flatten and shape around the filling.
- Sealing: Wrap the filling on all sides before rolling the ladoo. A well-sealed coconut shell prevents the filling from leaking out.
- Pistachios: Grind the pistachios carefully in short bursts and stop as soon as they turn into a fine powder. Do not overprocess, as it can make them oily and pasty.
- Filling: Use a little filling at a time to make sure the coconut shell can close comfortably around the filling. If you add too much filling, sealing the ladoo will become more difficult.
- Serving: Chill before serving. Refrigeration helps the truffles firm up and makes them easier to handle. Let chilled truffles soften slightly at room temperature before serving for a creamier bite.
- Storing: To store, keep the finished truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator, as the filling contains cream.
FAQ
What makes these coconut ladoo truffles different from regular coconut ladoo?
Regular coconut ladoos are usually made with a coconut mixture containing milk, sugar, ghee, and flavouring, then shaped into balls. These stuffed coconut ladoos have a flavour of cardamom but with the twist of truffles that have a creamy white chocolate pistachio filling in the centre, and a choice of coconut or pistachio coating.
Can I make coconut ladoo with milk?
Yes, you can. But this is a ladoo truffles recipe, so it has sweetened condensed milk which helps bind and sweeten the desiccated coconut, so you can make this coconut ladoo recipe without preparing a separate sugar syrup. Just cook the mixture until it thickens and comes together into a soft dough.
What cream is best for the white chocolate filling?
I used 10% fat cream for the filling. You can also use whipping cream here. Just chill it for 30 minutes or until it becomes firm enough to pipe or portion. Let it chill for extra time if it is still too soft to handle.
Why is my coconut mixture too sticky to shape?
The mixture may need a little more cooking or a small amount of additional desiccated coconut. Add the coconut gradually and stop once the mixture is soft but manageable. Adding too much can make the outer shell dry and difficult to seal.
Can I make these coconut ladoo truffles ahead of time?
Yes. You can prepare these in advance and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. The chilled texture of these truffles also makes them easier to arrange on a festive platter.
How should I store stuffed coconut ladoos?
Keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator because the white chocolate pistachio filling contains cream. Avoid leaving them at room temperature for extended periods.
Can I coat the truffles only in desiccated coconut or pistachio powder?
Yes, you can definitely coat every truffle in just one type of coating, either pistachio powder or desiccated coconut. The pistachio coating adds a nutty flavour and gives the sweets a green finish, and the coconut coating gives them a classic coconut ladoo or coconut truffles coating.
Are these coconut ladoo truffles suitable for Diwali?
Absolutely, they are perfect Diwali treats. Great for gifting and sharing. Their sweetened coconut shell, cardamom flavour, white chocolate pistachio filling, and festive garnishes make them a lovely addition to a Diwali sweets platter or a homemade mithai gift box.

NOTES:
- I used 10% fat cream. You can also use heavy cream or whipping cream for a richer filling. The consistency may vary depending on the cream, so chill the filling until it is thick enough to pipe.
- For another topping, dip the chilled truffles in melted white chocolate. Place them on parchment paper and let the coating set.
- Add extra desiccated coconut gradually, only if needed. Too much coconut can make the shell dry and difficult to wrap around the filling.
- Store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Since the filling contains cream, keep them refrigerated between servings.
