This way any season can be a mango season. :)
This gorgeous Frozen Mango Yogurt or Mango Yogurt Ice Cream uses simple ingredients like frozen mangoes, some thick yogurt (Turkish, Greek, or even strained), some sweetener, some flavorings.
An awesome advantage of this recipe is that you can serve it right after 2 hours of freezing, if you are into soft serving. It tastes fantastic that way too.
I like my yogurt in scoopable ice cream like consistency, so I generally go a step further and freeze for the next 4-6 hours.

What is the best sweetener for frozen mango yogurt?
I used sugar to it, but you can really use any type of sweetener you like. You can even skip adding any sweetener if you don’t have a sweet tooth or your mangoes are too sweet.
Some sweetener options for frozen mango yogurt are:
-
Sugar (granulated, brown, powdered, palm, coconut, all would work)
-
Honey
-
Maple syrup
-
Agave nectar
-
Sucralose sweetener
Feel free to choose any of the above options.
What type of yogurt is best for frozen mango yogurt?
For this recipe, you can really go with any type of plain yogurt with no added flavor. Full cream or low fat is totally up to you. I love creamy frozen yogurt so I generally use full-fat yogurt because it is lower in water content and higher fat content.
Below are some types of yogurt I like to use in my frozen yogurts:
-
Greek-style yogurt.
-
Turkish style of yogurt.
-
Strained yogurt.
How to make dairy-free or vegan frozen mango yogurt?
Making this dessert dairy-free is really simple. You just need to swap regular yogurt with coconut yogurt. And replace honey with agave nectar or maple syrup.
How to freeze mangoes?
Freezing mangoes are fairly simple. All you need to do is peel and chopping.
This is how I freeze my mangoes:
-
Peel and chop mangoes in bite-sized chunks.
-
Lay a parchment paper on a baking pan freezer-safe tray.
-
Arrange the chopped mangoes on the lined tray in a single layer. Make sure that the mango pieces are not touching.
-
Freeze for 4 hours.
-
Transfer frozen mangoes to a ziplock bag or freezer-safe container.
-
Freeze them and use whenever a recipe calls for frozen mangoes.

Some important tips and variations to make your best frozen mango yogurt each time:
-
If you want some nutty texture in your frozen yogurt, then you can also add some chopped pistachios or almonds to the mixture before freezing.
-
To make it more tropical, you can also add some mango chunks to the mango yogurt mixture before setting it.
-
To freeze the leftovers again, stir the mixture and cover with a cling wrap. Freeze and eat whenever your heart craves for some chilled mango treat.
-
Non-fat or low-fat yogurt can also be used for this recipe, but then it would be a bit icy, and won’t come out so creamy.
-
To make it vegan, use coconut or cashew yogurt for this frozen mango recipe. Also, use maple syrup or agave for sweetening.
-
To add some nice tang, you can also add lemon or lime zest and juice to this frozen mango yogurt recipe.
-
Flavoring of cardamom enhances the taste and the aroma of this frozen yogurt but using it is completely optional. So feel free to omit or replace it with other flavorings.
-
Some crushed saffron strands can also be added to the yogurt mixture.
-
The frozen yogurt will stay fresh in the freezer for up to 1 month.
-
You can add 1 frozen banana for a more creamy texture of this mango frozen yogurt. If you are adding bananas, then you can also reduce the amount of sweetener. It’s because the banana also boosts the natural sweetness.
-
You can also add homemade sweetened condensed milk for a creamy and rich texture of this frozen mango yogurt. Use coconut condensed milk if making a vegan version of this recipe.
-
Instead of frozen mangoes, you can also use mango puree. But in that case, you should take away the moisture from your mango puree by cooking it for about 10 minutes on medium-low heat.
