Mango Smoothie Ingredients

This healthy mango banana smoothie is as simple as any smoothie can be. It is made with 4 basic (+1 optional) ingredients which help the mango flavor shine in this smoothie. Here’s what you’ll need.

Mangoes - It is the key ingredient of this recipe. I have used fresh and ripe mangoes here. But frozen mangoes can also be used in this smoothie.

Banana - I have used frozen bananas to get a creamy and chilled smoothie. If you don’t have frozen bananas, then you can use fresh ones. Also, when using fresh bananas, add some ice to get the perfect thickness and texture.

Milk - It is added for a rich flavor in this mango smoothie. Dairy or non-dairy both types of milk will work in this smoothie. Non-dairy milk that tastes good in this smoothie is coconut milk, almond milk, cashew milk, and oat milk.

Yogurt - Greek yogurt makes the best thick and creamy smoothie, so I like to use that. You can use any non-fat and low-fat yogurt here. You can also use non-dairy yogurt to make this smoothie vegan.

Sweetener - Adding any type of sweetener is completely optional. I have added a dash of honey here because my smoothie was a little tangy. You can also use any other sweetener of your choice.

Variations

This mango smoothie is just perfect as it is, but you can always jazz up the flavors and textures of this smoothie.

Following are some variations for you.

Coconut water - You can swap milk with coconut water to make it light in texture.

Juice - It makes this smoothie more tropical. So you can replace milk with some fresh orange juice, pineapple juice, or mango juice.

Toasted coconut - If you like intense coconut flavors, then you can also add some toasted coconut flavors.

Other fruits - You can also use pineapple, papaya, or peaches to add more tropical flavors.

Storage

This smoothie tastes good when made fresh and it also tastes great as a leftover. So if you have leftovers then store them in a sealed container for up to 1 day. When you want to enjoy it, shake up the smoothie and pour it into glasses.

After that, it would start losing its flavors.

FAQ

Should you use fresh mango or frozen mango?

Fresh and frozen both types of mangoes can be used in this smoothie. I love to add fresh mangoes when they are in season. Just remember one thing that if you are using fresh mangoes, then bananas should be frozen to make your smoothie thick and cold.

If fresh mangoes are not available, then simply use frozen mango with fresh banana. In simple words, just make certain that at least one of the fruit is frozen.

How to make a mango smoothie vegan

This mango smoothie can be made with non-dairy or vegan milk and yogurt. Below are the plant-based or vegan milk options which taste well in this smoothie:

  • Oat milk & yogurt - It adds a nice creamy texture to this smoothie.

  • Almond milk & yogurt - It doesn’t make a super thick smoothie. To make it creamier, you can also add 1-2 tablespoons of almond meal.

  • Cashew milk & yogurt - This  adds a really rich taste and sweet flavor to this smoothie.

  • Coconut milk & yogurt - Mango and coconut go so well, and adding coconut milk gives this smoothie a silky smooth texture and mild coconut flavor.
