Strawberry Salad Recipe Ingredients
This classic, colorful and delectable strawberry salad tastes incredibly good. You will need a few simple ingredients to make this extraordinary salad. Here is what you’ll need to make this best strawberry salad recipe:
Strawberries – As strawberry is the base of this salad recipe. The fresh, juicy and ripe berries are the best. You can also use a combination of berries to make this salad.
Cucumber – Some sliced cucumber is added for veggie goodness. I have used English cucumbers, you can also use Persian or any of your favorite cucumbers here.
Onions – A little bit of red onion adds pungency, color, savory flavor, and lovely crunch to this salad.
Greens – I have used a combination of romaine lettuce and arugula. You can also use fresh basil leaves here.
Cheese – I have used crumbled feta cheese to make this strawberry salad. It adds a creamy texture with rich, and briny flavors to this salad. You can swap it with goat cheese or mozzarella pearls.
Nuts – I have topped the salad with toasted sliced almonds to add some crunch. You can also use pecans or walnuts here.
Dressing ingredients – I haven’t made a separate dressing for this salad. Just added everything to the salad bowl and tossed it with other ingredients. The dressing ingredients you will need are olive oil, lemon juice, and pepper (salt can also be used if needed). For acidity, you can also swap lemon juice with balsamic or white vinegar.

Dried fruits: To make it more fruity you can also add dried cranberries or dried apricot.
Cheese: I have used feta cheese, you can also use vegan feta, goat cheese, ricotta, mozzarella, blue cheese, or tofu.
Acidic ingredient: I have used freshly squeezed lemon juice for acidity, you can also use a balsamic vinaigrette or balsamic reduction along with olive oil.
Grain: You can also add cooked grain such as quinoa, or couscous farro to make this salad fuller.
Beans: Roasted or boiled chickpeas are also added for a protein punch. Canned kidney beans can also be added here.
Bread: Some toasted bread or crusty bread pieces can also be added to this salad.
Strawberry Salad Storage Suggestions
This salad becomes soggy after a couple of hours. So if you are preparing it for a make-ahead meal, then add all the chopped veggies to an air-tight container and refrigerate. Add the dressing ingredients and crumbled feta only when you are about the serve.
Tips & tricks to make the best strawberry salad
Onions - If your red onions have a sharp taste, then soak them in iced water for 10 minutes before adding the salad. This would take away the strong and harsh aftertaste.
Only dress the salad shortly before serving as it will start losing its crunchiness after adding dressing.
You can store undressed salad for up to 2 days in the refrigerator when stored in an air-tight container.
Oil - I have used extra virgin olive oil for tossing salad. You can also use olive oil here.
Dried herbs - You can add dried oregano or dried parsley if you want to add more seasoning to this strawberry salad.
Tomato - You can also add grape tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, or regular tomatoes to this salad recipe.
Spinach strawberry salad - Swap arugula and lettuce with spinach to make Strawberry spinach salad.
How to make a vegan strawberry salad
To make this salad vegan, you can use vegan feta. Or you can also use vegan cheese substitutes to make this salad vegan.
Strawberry Salad Serving Suggestions

Strawberry Salad (Step-by-step photo instructions)
For making Strawberry Salad
- Remove the hulls and green tops from the strawberries and slice them. Also, thinly slice the red onion and open up the layers.
- After that, cut the cucumber in half, lengthwise. Now, thinly slice it. You will have thin half circle slices. Slice kalamata olives. Also, roughly chop the lettuce or any salad greens. I used romaine.
- Place the sliced strawberries to a big mixing bowl. Also, add chopped lettuce, sliced olives, sliced cucumbers, and sliced red onions. Add crumbled feta (use vegan feta to make it vegan).
- Add freshly ground pepper. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice. Also, add salt if needed. I didn't add salt because feta is already very salty. Top with arugula and toss the salad to coat the leaves. Make sure that your salad greens are nicely moistened. To serve, transfer the salad to a serving bowl. Top with chili flakes, crumbled feta, and sliced almonds. Serve the salad immediately with some garlic bread, crusty bread or soup.
