Ingredients

This lassi is a unique blend of simple ingredients that are handy. Below are the main ingredients of mango flavored lassi and their importance in this beverage recipe:

  • Ripe mangoes: Mango is the main ingredient of this lassi. Using ripe and sweet mango is recommended for making this lassi. Traditionally Alphonso mangoes are used for making this lassi drink to get the unique taste, sweet and tangy flavor.

You can use any soft and sweet mangoes to get the best flavor of lassi.

  • Yogurt: Yogurt is the main ingredient of lassi. It adds a creamy texture and tangy flavor to the lassi which complements the sweetness of the mangoes.

  • Milk: It is added to thin out the consistency of lassi and to make it creamy and drinkable. If you do not like adding milk, then add water. Just remember that adding water will not make it as creamy as milk.

  • Sweetener: Sugar is added to mango flavored lassi to give it sweetness. The amount of sugar can be adjusted to suit your taste preference. Feel free to avoid adding sugar if your mangoes are sweet.

For a healthier alternative, you can also swap sugar with honey or maple syrup.

  • Cardamom: It is a commonly used spice in Indian drinks and dessert recipes. It is added for an aromatic flavor and taste, and it also aids in digestion. However, adding cardamom is completely optional here.

  • Toppings: For an added crunch, and texture, I like to top my lassi with chopped pistachio and chopped mangoes. Adding pistachios and mangoes is optional here.

How to Make Mango Lassi

Making your own homemade mango lassi is easy and fun, plus it is more hygienic and cost-effective. The only preparation you need to do is grab the ingredients from the nearby grocery and chop the mangoes. That is it.

To make this lassi, you will need ripe and juicy mangoes, chilled yogurt, chilled milk, sugar, ice cubed and cardamom. Just peel and chop the mangoes into small pieces. Put them in a blender and blend until smooth.

Then add the yogurt, milk, sugar, ice cubes and a pinch of cardamom. Blend the mixture again until it is smooth and creamy. Pour it into a serving glass and enjoy!

You can adjust the consistency by using less or more liquid (yogurt, water, or milk). Also, feel free to adjust the sweetness and flavoring to your liking.

How to Make Vegan Mango Lassi

Vegan mango lassi is a dairy-free version of the traditional lassi drink.

If you are into a vegan diet or are lactose intolerant, then you can make a vegan version of lassi by replacing yogurt with dairy free yogurt and milk with dairy free milk such as coconut milk or almond milk.

To make mango flavored lassi vegan lassi, start by blending ripe mangoes with coconut yogurt and coconut milk. Add sugar or any other sweetener of your choice and cardamom powder for additional flavor. Adjust the thickness of the lassi by varying the amount of liquid.

Variations

Mango lussi is such a versatile drink that can easily be customized in numerous ways by experimenting with different ingredients and flavors. Here are some variations of delicious mango lassi that you can try

  • Lassi without blender: If you do not have a blender or mixer, you can still make this lassi without a blender. To make it without a blender, add mango pulp to a bowl along with milk, yogurt, sugar, and cardamom.

Use a whisk to whisk the ingredients together until they are well combined and smooth.

  • Lassi with mango puree: You can also make mango flavored lassi using pre-made or store bought mango puree instead of mango juice. Simply swap the fresh mangoes with a cup of mango puree and follow the same steps.

  • Spicy Mango Lassi: If you like a bit of heat, adding some chopped chili or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the classic mango flavored lussi recipe can create a delicious and spicy variation.

  • Mint Mango Lassi: To make the mango mint lassi, you can add some fresh mint leaves to the blender along with mango chunks. It makes it more refreshing.

  • Coconut Mango Lassi: Mango and coconut go so well together. For making mango coconut lassi, you can swap regular yogurt with coconut yogurt and milk with coconut milk. This type of lassi has a more tropical and nuttier flavor.

  • Almond Mango Lassi: Another dairy-free option of this lassi is almond mango lussi. To make this lassi, you need to use almond milk yogurt, almond milk and 4-5 raw almonds. This lassi variation will have a nutty almond flavor and will have a slightly thinner consistency.

  • Mango Lassi with Ice Cream: To convert this lassi into a decadent dessert, serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or mango ice cream. The addition of ice cream will give it a richer and creamier texture.

  • Pistachio Mango Lussi: Mangoes and pistachios are a lovely pair. To make this lassi, add 2 tablespoons of unsalted pistachios to the blender while blending the lassi.

  • Rose Mango Lassi: To make mango with rose water, add 1 teaspoon of rose water to the blender. And blend. It would add a floral and fragrant touch to mango lussi.

  • Saffron Mango Lassi: Add a few strands of saffron to the blender and blend until smooth. Saffron and mango give it a lovely Indian dessert flavor and taste.

  • Alcoholic Mango Lassi: If you like some booze in your lassi drinks, then you can make an alcoholic version of mango lassi. Simply add 2 shots of rum to the lassi mixture. You can also add mango flavored Bacardi.
