What is Lassi?

If you are not familiar with lassi then let me tell you what it is. Lassi is an Indian yogurt-based revitalizing drink. You may call it a yogurt smoothie. It is an absolutely toothsome cooling yogurt drink, which is popular throughout the Indian subcontinent.

Lassis are a treat on the hottest of the days.

Lassis also makes a good ice cream, such as this Cherry Lassi Ice Cream. Have you tried any?

Can I make Peach Lassi with Greek Yogurt?

Yes, you can use Greek yogurt that is not too thick. Plain sweet lassi made with natural yogurt (plain dahi) is relatively thin (a bit like watery) and light. But the flavored ones are a bit thick, so I generally use any thick and creamy yogurt to my flavored lassi recipes.

Here, I used 2% Greek yogurt. You can use any type of natural yogurt. Just don’t use too thick yogurt, such as 10% Turkish or Greek yogurt here.

  1. Adding sweetener is completely optional here. If adding it, then you can choose any type of sweetener in this peach lassi recipe.

  2. If the peaches you are adding in the lassi are too ripe and too sweet, then you probably don’t need any sweetener in this lassi.

  3. I added mint leaves for a refreshing minty flavor. If you don’t like to use mint leaves, then feel free to skip it.

  4. To make sweet and salty lassi, add a pinch of regular to kosher salt to this lassi.

  5. If you have little ones at home who don’t like even a tiny piece of skin in their lassi, so remove peach skin for this recipe. But you can also make lassi without removing the skin. That would also taste good.

  6. The addition of ice cubes gives this lassi a thick, creamy, and desired texture. However, you can certainly skip the ice part, if you don’t want to use them.

  7. You can also add additional fruit to this peach lassi.

  8. Lassis are generally made with a combination of yogurt and chilled water. To make it richer in taste, I prefer adding milk. Feel free to go with the same amount of water.
