How To Make A Really Good Vanilla Milkshake Recipe

What makes vanilla milkshakes so great? The ingredients you have used make it taste good or bland. It’s not only about mixing the vanilla ice cream with milk. Here are some pointers to keep in mind when making a vanilla milkshake:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream: Since vanilla is the star of the show, you need to invest in some good quality vanilla ice cream. Whether you use homemade or store-bought, make sure it has really good vanilla essence.

  • Vanilla Flavor: The recipe for vanilla milkshake needs just enough high-quality vanilla flavor, and for that, you can use pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste.

  • Milk and Ice Cream Ratio: The milkshake I have prepared has just the right amount of ice cream and milk, giving you a creamy shake with vanilla flavor without being too heavy. It has 2.5 cups of ice cream with 2 cups of milk. It tastes like having your favorite dessert in a drinkable form right in the comfort of your home!

  • Milk Amount:  The amount of milk also depends on the thickness of your preference. To make it even creamier, you can even use a combination of milk and cream.

What You Need to Make It

  • Vanilla Ice Cream: I used homemade vanilla ice cream here for good vanilla flavor. You need some really high-quality vanilla ice cream, so choose a premium one. You need about 500 ml, 2 cups, or 4 scoops.

  • Milk: I have used 1.5 cups of whole milk. If you want a thicker shake then use only 1 cup of milk.

  • Vanilla Extract: A teaspoon of pure vanilla extract is just enough to boost the vanilla flavor.

  • Sugar: I have added 1 1/4 tablespoons of sugar, but adding sweetener is totally optional here.

  • Whipped Cream (optional): It is just used for topping, to make it taste more creamy and delicious. You can also top your shake with vanilla ice cream.

  • Sprinkles or a Cherry (optional): I added some colorful sprinkles to make it look fun and festive. But adding sprinkles or not is your choice.

How to Make Your Vanilla Milkshake

Making a vanilla milkshake is pretty simple.

  • Add all the milkshake ingredients to a blender and blend until it’s super smooth.

  • Pour your shake into a cool glass. Top with whipped cream, and sprinkles or a cherry. Your shake is ready, grab your straw, dig in, and enjoy the creamy goodness of your homemade vanilla milkshake.

Fun Variations

Banana Vanilla Milkshake

Add about 1 whole ripe banana to this milkshake, and your banana vanilla milkshake is ready.

Banana Coffee Milkshake

Add a shot of coffee or some instant coffee along with other ingredients, and you will have your Banana Coffee milkshake.

Boozy Vanilla Milkshake

For an added boozy taste, feel free to add a splash of your favorite liqueur.

Toppings

You can drizzle it with strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, toffee sauce, or any other sauce of your choice. Like cookies or candy? You can even top it with crushed chocolate chip cookies, or M&Ms for fun twists.

Tips & Tricks to Make the Best Vanilla Milkshake

  1. Mix in Flavors: You can mix vanilla with other flavors by adding some caramel sauce or chocolate syrup. To change up the flavor, you can also add some sweet-scenting spices such as cinnamon or nutmeg.

  2. Vegan: If you are vegan, then you can make this milkshake suitable for a dairy-free diet. Just swap regular milk with almond milk, and replace regular vanilla ice cream with dairy-free vanilla ice cream.

  3. Check the Thickness: If your shake is too thin for you, add another scoop of ice cream and blend again. You can also throw in a few ice cubes to make it thicker.
