Ingredients
Tortilla: Since it is a wrap recipe, a tortilla or flatbread is needed to make the base of your wrap. I used store-bought tortillas for this wrap, but you can also use homemade tortillas or flatbreads like roti or paratha if you like. You can even swap the tortillas with chocolate crepes.
Nutella: I used Nutella to spread on the wrap, giving it a sweet taste, rich texture, and chocolatey flavor. You can also use any other hazelnut-chocolate spread of your choice. A homemade hazelnut spread also works here.
Banana: Fresh banana slices give this wrap a sweet, fruity taste.
Toasted Hazelnuts: These are the flavor makers in this recipe. Toasted chopped hazelnuts add a nice crunch and extra flavor. I used them inside the wrap and also as a topping for more nuttiness.
Icing Sugar: I like to dust this wrap with a bit of icing sugar. It’s really the icing on the cake, adding a final sweet finish and making it look like the desserts you get from your favorite cafés. However, dusting these wraps with icing sugar is entirely optional—it still tastes good without it.
Variations
Berries
Instead of bananas, you can try using sliced strawberries or blueberries for a berry-licious twist. You can also combine bananas and berries.
Nut butter
Instead of Nutella, you can use peanut butter or almond butter for a nuttier flavor.
Tortilla Swap
Replace tortillas with flatbread of your choice, crepes, or even waffles for a different texture and taste.
Toppings
Feel free to use any toppings of your choice. For example, you can top the wrap with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream to make it even more decadent.
Serving Suggestions
I like to serve mine just as it is. But sometimes, I also enjoy it with ice cream if I have some handy. For a sweet breakfast, enjoy it with a plain glass of milk, coffee, or tea.
When serving as brunch or easy-to-eat finger food at parties, you can slice it in half and pair it with other brunch dishes like Coconut Bars, Milk Toast, Cottage Cheese Flatbread, Garlic Bread, Pistachio Date Cups, Flat Croissant, and Iced Spanish Latte, and Greek Frappe.
Storage
This wrap tastes best when freshly made. It keeps well for 2-3 hours at room temperature, but after that, it starts turning soggy and loses its flavor. So, I recommend eating it within 2-3 hours.
You can reheat it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before serving.
Important Tips & Tricks to make the best Nutella Banana Wrap
-
Toasting: For toasting, I used a grill, but you can also toast it in a pan with some butter or in a sandwich maker—whatever is available to you.
-
Dry Tortillas? If your tortillas are dry and old, simply warm them in a pan or microwave for 10 seconds, and they will be flexible and easier to wrap.
-
Don’t overfill: When adding filling, try to add it on half of the tortilla—this makes it easier to roll, and you get just enough filling.
-
Hazelnuts: Toasted hazelnuts are highly recommended for this sweet wrap recipe, but if you like other nuts, feel free to use them. You can also omit the nuts completely.
-
Serve immediately: To enjoy the fresh taste and best texture, eat the wrap a few minutes after toasting. At this point, they’re warm and enjoyable with all the flavors.
