RECIPE INGREDIENTS
» For chocolate orange truffles
- 170 g dark chocolate or chocolate chips (dairy-free)
- 1/3 cup thick full-fat coconut milk or cream
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 2 large oranges
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A few drops of orange essence or oil (optional)
- 120 g melted dark chocolate or cacao powder for coating
RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS
» How to Make Chocolate Orange Truffles
- Zest 1 large orange and set the zest aside.
- Slice one orange and juice it using a juicer.
- Strain the juice into a saucepan and cook over medium heat until it reduces to about 2 tablespoons. Set aside.
- In a heat-safe bowl, add the broken chocolate pieces or chocolate chips and coconut milk.
- Melt in the microwave for 1 minute or over a double boiler. Stir until completely smooth.
- While it is still warm, mix in 1 tablespoon coconut oil, the reduced orange juice, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1.5 teaspoons orange zest.
- Add a few drops of orange essence or oil (if using) for a deeper orange flavor and mix well.
- Once the mixture reaches room temperature, cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours since the extra juice makes the ganache softer.
- Scoop and roll into balls, Place them on a parchment line tray. Then chill for 15 minutes.
- Dip each truffle in melted dark chocolate and place them on a parchment paper-lined plate.
- Top each truffle with a bit of orange zest while the coating is still wet. Alternatively, coat with cocoa powder or coconut.
- Chill for 20 minutes before serving. Your Chocolate Orange Truffles are ready to enjoy!
RECIPE NOTES
- For best flavours and textures, use high quality 70% dark chocolate. I used vegan dark chocolate, but you can also use sugar free dark chocolate or regular dark chocolate here.
- If you are not into a vegan diet, then you can also use regular cream and butter for making the truffles.
