RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS

» How to Make Chocolate Orange Truffles

  1. Zest 1 large orange and set the zest aside.
  2. Slice one orange and juice it using a juicer.
  3. Strain the juice into a saucepan and cook over medium heat until it reduces to about 2 tablespoons. Set aside.
  4. In a heat-safe bowl, add the broken chocolate pieces or chocolate chips and coconut milk.
  5. Melt in the microwave for 1 minute or over a double boiler. Stir until completely smooth.
  6. While it is still warm, mix in 1 tablespoon coconut oil, the reduced orange juice, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1.5 teaspoons orange zest.
  7. Add a few drops of orange essence or oil (if using) for a deeper orange flavor and mix well.
  8. Once the mixture reaches room temperature, cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours since the extra juice makes the ganache softer.
  9. Scoop and roll into balls, Place them on a parchment line tray. Then chill for 15 minutes.
  10. Dip each truffle in melted dark chocolate and place them on a parchment paper-lined plate.
  11. Top each truffle with a bit of orange zest while the coating is still wet. Alternatively, coat with cocoa powder or coconut.
  12. Chill for 20 minutes before serving. Your Chocolate Orange Truffles are ready to enjoy!

RECIPE NOTES

  1. For best flavours and textures, use high quality 70% dark chocolate. I used vegan dark chocolate, but you can also use sugar free dark chocolate or regular dark chocolate here.
  2. If you are not into a vegan diet, then you can also use regular cream and butter for making the truffles.
