RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS

» How to make Chocolate Covered Orange

  1. Place the chocolate pieces and coconut oil in a microwave-safe cup. Microwave the mixture in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval. Continue microwaving and stirring until the chocolate and coconut oil are smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, you can use the double boiler method. Fill a saucepan with an inch or two of water and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Place a heatproof bowl over the saucepan. Add the chocolate and coconut oil to the bowl and stir constantly until the chocolate is melted.
  2. Grate the zest from 1/2 orange using a fine grater or zester. Stir the grated orange zest into the melted chocolate until well combined.
  3. Peel the orange and divide it into segments. Pat them gently using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to absorb excess moisture.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Using a fork or a dipping tool, dip each orange slice into the orange zest-infused melted chocolate. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off, then place the dipped orange slice onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. You can keep them as is, or if desired, sprinkle a pinch of additional orange zest or sea salt flakes over the chocolate-covered oranges while the chocolate is still wet. Once all the orange slices are dipped and decorated, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
  6. Serve and store: Once the chocolate has hardened, remove the chocolate-covered orange slices from the refrigerator. Serve them immediately as a delightful snack or dessert. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

RECIPE NOTES

  1. Oranges are loaded with juice, so make sure that the orange slices are thoroughly dried before dipping them in chocolate. This step prevents the chocolate from seizing.
  2. For chocolate melting, you can either use a microwave like me, or use a double boiler. To melt it in the microwave, microwave in short bursts with coconut oil until smooth and creamy.
