Happy midweek to you all!

This week’s news is that Ado’s summer holidays have begun starting this week. And she has been successfully playing her role to keep me busy with her stuff and keeping me away from my laptop! 😀

These days my typical day goes like this:

As soon as I start working on my laptop, Ado starts with her constant words!

“Mamma, come, mamma come, mamma come……”. And it goes on until I stop working and see what she wants to show me.

Me: “What Ado?, Don’t you see Mamma is working?”

Ado: “Come, Mamma, there is a spider.

Me: “Okay! Show me, where is the spider.”

Ado: “Haaawww (in shocking way), it’s gone, Mamma.”

Me: “It’s okay! Now you play and don’t disturb Mamma.”

Ado: “Oooookaaaaaay”!

I come back and start on concentrating on what I was doing.

After 5 minutes, Ado shouts from balcony, “Mammaaa, Mammaaaa come, come Mamma.”

I rush to the balcony and ask her, “What happened, why are you shouting?”

Ado: “Pony (her soft toy) is eating ladybird. Pony, don’t eat lady bug. Mamma doesn’t like it. Listen to Mamma. Alright!”

Me: “Where is ladybird? I can’t see it here.”

Ado: “Haaawwww, ladybird is gone Mamma.”

Me: “Adoaaaaaa, told you not to disturb Mommy”.

Ado: “Sorry! I want water, Mamma”.

Me: “Okay, wait! I will get it.”

And after that she wants to watch her favorite cartoon series. And when I tell her, “Not now, watch in the evening. So much screen is not good for the eyes”. And then she starts asking questions with her ‘WHY’ sequence! 😉

Kids are so funny sometimes, they would say something you would have never thought of.

And these days my whole day passes with Ado’s adventures. The only rescue is to keep her busy. And by keeping busy, I mean taking her out!;)

Whenever she goes out, she behaves like the most disciplined kid!

And when someone praises her, I so feel that I am on the cloud 9 at that certain moment! Kids are indeed blessings, and FUN too! 🙂

They just want some love and attention. I am not the best Mom, but I try to be a good Mom. And try to give her as much time as possible! No doubt, she is a wonderful kid. We are blessed. 🙂

Grrrrr, so much of parenting talk today. Right?

Okay! That was it for today. Now let’s talk about my today’s recipe.

Today’s recipe is Strawberry Masala Chaas (Spiced Strawberry Buttermilk). And credit for this particular recipe goes to my little princess.

How you ask?

Well, a couple of weeks ago when I was sipping my chilled chaas (buttermilk), I asked to her, “Do you want some Chaas.”

Her eyes glowed and she questioned back, “Strawberry Chaas?”

“Strawberry Chaas? How in the world did she get this idea?”, I thought.

I confirmed by asking her again, “Do you want strawberry chaas?”

I only asked, but she took it as my YES, and screamed, “Yeah! Strawberry Chaas”.

And this is how I made my first ‘Strawberry Chaas’. 🙂

Let me tell you what is Masala chaas.

Masala chaas is the spiced North Indian buttermilk. It is healthy and refreshing drink — a perfect treat for the summer. It cools our bodies and maintains the body heat at the correct level.

And not only it keeps the body cool, it also helps to keep the body hydrated, especially in the summer months.

During my earlier summers, this was a must-have drink for my Grandpa after his lunch. And why not? This is a healthy, refreshing, delicious, and flavourful summer cooler.

This refreshing drink is made with yogurt or buttermilk with added spices such as cumin seeds or herbs like cilantro or mint. I have slightly twisted the regular recipe by adding fresh strawberries to it.

Addition of strawberries makes it really fruity and flavory!

In another good news, finally, summer is here. YEAH! And in the summer I personally prefer to drink liquids all day to keep myself hydrated. Be it fresh juices, milkshakes, smoothies, mocktails, buttermilk or coconut water.

The main criteria is to consume lots and lots of fluids to keep myself hydrated.

Usually, I drink my green tea after meals. But in summers after lunch, I really crave for some chilled buttermilk. Thus I make this mighty drink often.

And another reason of making this buttermilk often (almost everyday;)) is — it’s quite quick and easy to prepare, and tastes divine too.

Chaas seems to be the best way to beat the heat and to rehydrate ourselves. For the last couple of days I am preparing a pitcher of buttermilk in the mornings, and I keep that in my refrigerator.

So, whenever I feel like having a chilled drink during the day, I go and grab a glass of this delicacy right away! 🙂

Well, I think this is the advantage of being a little lazy — make it in a bulk and enjoy it throughout the day! 😉

When you think about beating summer heat, some people also think about Lassi. Now, you might think and ask, how this Chaas is different from the regular Lassi?

Let me tell you what is the difference between lassi and chaas.

The difference is that lassi is a lot creamier and and most of times sweet, and chaas is very thin, salted and most of the times spicy.

A basic masala chaas is made with yogurt and spiced with interesting flavors like mint, coriander, cumin powder, chaat masala and salt.

Unlike traditional chaas, this strawberry chaas contains berries. You could drink this with a straw or simply drink with the glass! I am absolutely and totally in love with this ‘Strawberry Chaas’.

The reason for my fondness is that strawberries go so amazingly well in this chaas, adding an awesome fruity flavor. Oh, and don’t be scared if you’ve never made chaas before. It’s so easy. You will see for yourself.

You can make it with just natural creamy or fat-free yogurt, strawberry, water, and salt, cumin powder and green chilies. It really doesn’t get any simpler.

This chaas is a thin refreshing salty drink packed with a good punch of coriander and flavored with cumin. And when you add ice cubes to this spiced chaas, it makes it the PERFECT spicy chilled drink ever. Ummm!

And yeah, I am clearly going to enjoy this cold summer drink right away on my way to the beach! Finally it’s my time to say to Ado,“Come Ado, let’s go to a place where your spider has gone!” 😉

Now, after all this fun, let’s learn to make this simple and exotic ‘Strawberry Chaas’.

Love homemade flavoured drinks? Then you would also love easy these recipes: haldi doodh, rose milk, date milk, masala doodh, ginger milk, I just adore this Indian kesar milk.
