Whether cooking is your favourite activity or not, the kitchen is one of the busiest places in the house. People like to gather around in the kitchen, and eating in the kitchen, making it one of the busiest places in the home.

For these reasons, it is only natural to want your kitchen to look lively. Choosing the perfect interior décor is the best way to give your kitchen a welcoming feel.

When decorating your dream kitchen, a factor that is mostly overlooked is the choice of window treatments. Choosing the perfect blinds for your kitchen is as important as selecting curtains for any other room in the house.

What to consider when choosing kitchen blinds?

The amount of cooking done

If you use your kitchen often to cook food, there is smoke, grease, and odour issues to consider. Cooking also releases steam creating a humid environment in the kitchen. This humidity can reduce the lifespan of your blinds depending on the material used to make the blinds.

You need to choose a material that can withstand humidity in the kitchen and one that is easy to clean.  PVC blinds are the best option for high moisture environments.

Nearness to the oven or sink

If your window is right above your kitchen sink or cooking stove, it will be subjected to regular splashes from food and water. Therefore, the best blinds for kitchen sink window should be the ones that are easy to clean and resistant to water damage. If you prefer the wood blinds, go for faux wood for this scenario, but do not use real wood blinds.

Kitchen size

If you have a large kitchen, the window is also relatively big. This means that the window also serves as a decorative element in the kitchen. Therefore, your choice of blinds should match the decorative style of the window. It is possible to keep your choice practical but stylish. Bold and bright choices can be ideal.

Window positioning

Consider the amount of natural light coming into your kitchen through the window. Weigh this against the amount of light you prefer getting into the room and base your blind choice on this factor. If your kitchen window gets into contact with sunlight a lot during the day, you can go for blinds that filter out excess light.

With all the factors above, ideally, you might need to choose between vertical and Venetian blinds. When it comes to privacy, the Venetian or vertical blinds can either have vertical or horizontal slats. The slat choice is dependent mostly on the size of your window. If you have a small or short windows, horizontal slats are the best choice. On the other hand, vertical slats are the best for big or tall windows.

The view

If our kitchen window opens up to a garden or a view, you can choose vertical or roller blinds. These are easy to roll up and down whenever necessary.

There is no right or wrong colour for kitchen blinds. However, it is essential to remember that kitchen has glossy cabinets, hard lines, countertops, and kitchen appliances. Therefore, consider using neutral colour blinds to avoid overdoing it.

The best kitchen blinds should complement the decor of your kitchen as opposed to competing with it.
